The Thirdheaded Collective is a group of international actors, based in Copenhagen. Hedda Gabler was the first performance brought on stage by the group.
The show was performed in Valby Kulturhus and will now be performed in Aveny-T in February 2026.
We are very passionate about this play, the story and what it has to say about human nature. With the themes of identity, power and societal roles, we ask the quesion: how can one be free?

The process
The project began with reading and discussion sessions of the play itself: talking about the events that occurred before, during and after the play. Digging deep into the characters themselves; their needs, their wants, their flaws.
We continued with a meticulous writing process, spanning multiple months, where we adapted the play to our wants and capabilities. For example, because of us only being five actors and there being seven characters, we had to cut Bertha, the maid, and have her only be mentioned in some parts.
After we finished our own written adaptation of Hedda Gabler, we started with floor work: improvisational exercises where we explored the themes of the play, and specific scene work where we mapped the scenes out and started working on them, line by line. Since we didn't have a director, often the person that is not in the scene would be outside giving notes and directions.
We continued this process until we finished all of the scenes, where eventually we were able to do a full run of the play without any stops. We had people that we trusted come and see us, give us feedback that would help us greatly in finishing putting this performance together.
